Monterey Jazz Festival

Set up in 1958, four years after the Newport Jazz Holiday became the 1st big out of doors jazz event, the Monterey Jazz Holiday has been one of the biggest annual jazz holidays in the world. Held each September on the Monterey Fairground in stunning Monterey, California, the holiday commenced when Jimmy Lyons, a jazz radio host in San Francisco, wished to host a holiday in the spotless hills near Monterey Bay. Thanks to many tiny contributions from local firms, the 1st Monterey Jazz Holiday managed to program such important acts as Billie Vacation, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Max Roach, and lots more. The Monterey Jazz Festival generally features around fifty concerts on 9 stages over the course of a few days. Lately, the holiday has added panel consultations, workshops, and hospitals across the 20-acre fairground. The holiday audience usually consists of almost forty thousand folk. As well as programming the holiday, the Monterey Jazz Holiday also searches for to push jazz through tutorial programs, grants, and a record label that releases recordings of famous jazz holiday performances.
